      Hey Gail ,

This Thunderbolt to HDMI video adapter is also having audio support so there might not be any problem .

I think you have an HDMI cable which is either too old or too new. I had to try 3 different cables on my Macbook Air, 2 which worked fine from my ASUS laptop to the TV, the third which did not. The third cable worked fine on the Macbook Air to the TV. Also, make sure the proper output is selected under Sound on your preferences while the HDMI cord / adapter is plugged in.

      Gail,

Go to Settings > Sound > Output and select your tv which should me in the list alongside HMDI. I had the same problem with my MacBook Air and Samsung tv initially, but doing this sorted it out straight away.

When I connect as you suggest my Macbook Air displays a grey screen with an error message inviting me to press a key to restart; when I do this nothing happens. The TV also receives no signal, inviting me to check signal cable.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Does this mean that this will not work with an MacAir, but only a MacBook Pro?
Has the GPU of the 2014 MacAir sufficient power to perfectly run videos on an HDTV?

Is it possible to just play the video on the tv screen and not on the MacBook Air at the same time? Make screen on Mac go black but still display video on TV screen. Can’t close the lid or video stops. Thanks!

I have the same problem and have tried all the permutations and combinations of plugging in the HDMI cable. By the way as discussed in other solution posts where is the place called “Settings” on the Mac Air?

When I use mirroring, after a while I get the “connection lost” error from my Apple TV.. Actually I have 3 Apple TVs one macbookpro (2013) and one macair (2013).. All have the same issue.. If i send a video via iphone or ipad there isn’t any problem. But if I mirror while running a video on my MacAir, let’s say about 20-25 minutes later first the video on TV freezes and after that the Mac disconnects itself and Apple TV shows a connection lost error.. (it disconnects from network)
    Any ideas about this issue?
